It is obvious that the Obama Administration and many Democrats are diametrically opposed to the Catholic Church and Her mission, and indeed seem to wish to destroy the mission of the Church in the United States. 

·         Mr. Obama was one of the most pro-abortion senators in history, even voting for lifting the bans on late-term and partial-birth abortions.

·         One of Mr. Obama’s first actions as president was to lift the ban on taxpayer-funded abortions in the U.S. and abroad.

·         Another early act of Mr. Obama as president was to lift all protections on conscience-based medical care, endangering all Catholic hospitals and clinics.

·         Recently Mr. Obama and his fellow liberals have threatened to tax all charitable contributions, placing a chilling effect on such contributions.

 Note these Democratic bills proposed in the very liberal New York legislature, just these past few months:

·         A proposal cutting “conscience protection”, requiring all hospitals to perform abortions, or lose their state license, and putting Catholic clinics and hospitals at risk.

·         Major funding cuts for Catholic schools by Governor David Peterson, who continues to force the parochial schools to run state-mandated programs at their own expense.

·         An effort by Democratic lawmakers to abolish the statute of limitations on sex abuse lawsuits against the Church, allowing people to sue over decades-old cases in which the alleged perpetrators are dead. This proposed law applies only to private institutions such as the Church and the Boy Scouts. Public schools are exempt. Sex abuse is more common in public institutions and schools, so simple justice is not the aim of this action.

This did not shock me. I have known the aims of the Liberal Democrats for many years, and by watching the actions and speeches of Mr. Obama, I knew long before he became president that his goals would be the same as theirs. As a life-long Catholic, I warned everyone I could about him and the Democrat controlled Congress.

What did shock me was discovering recently that the Catholic Church, itself, helped to get Mr. Obama elected and establish him as the most powerful man in the world.

The Catholic Church has worked hard against itself through The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). The Catholic Campaign donated 7 million to ACORN, a “community organizing” group well known for its ties to Mr. Obama (since he had worked as a “community organizer” and lawyer for them in the 1990’s). ACORN went on to “community organize” for Mr. Obama’s campaign without apparent concern for the law, and is now being investigated in 14 states for voter fraud.

When ACORN’s extra-legal activities and promotion of a super-pro abortion senator was brought to their attention, the CCHD cried mea culpa and removed all funding from ACORN. It is interesting to note that this removal of funding was made official on November 8-9, 2008, a few days AFTER Mr. Obama won the election. How convenient for Mr. Obama, (and for ACORN, because they received 5.2 billion in the recent stimulus package).

I find it difficult to believe that the CCHD knew nothing of Mr. Obama’s Anti-Catholic and Anti-Life agenda, or ACORN’s support of him and its less-than-legal habits. I knew exactly what kind of agenda Mr. Obama had, as well as ACORN’s aims, and I am simply a school teacher in Texas. Either CCHD was incredibly ignorant, naive, or moved by questionable motives.

As the Bible and Abraham Lincoln warned, “A house divided against itself cannot stand”. The Catholic Church must stand completely on GOD’s side, since the other side, although filled with sweet-sounding liberal platitudes, leads to nothing but despair, intrigue, and desolation.

To defend itself, the CCHD may point out that its support of groups like ACORN, and in extension Mr. Obama, is only an attempt to help the poor and down-trodden. But is “social justice” attainable at the cost of the Church itself? I remind them of the Gospel story of the women who poured spikenard over Christ’s head. Judas objected, claiming that the spikenard should have been instead sold and the money given to the poor. Christ rebuked him, indicating that glorification of GOD is more important than anything, especially a petty attempt to give handouts. Has the CCHD found itself in Judas’s place, holding dubious community charity over Christ’s representative on Earth?

Or is there a further level to the CCHD’s aims?

If the CCHD must pursue candidates and agendas that stand against Catholic Doctrine, the CCHD should at least be honest and remove the word “Catholic” from its name. Personally, I would suggest placing the word “Communist” In its place, since that is the agenda the CCHD seems to favor.

The ACLU recently has been fighting to remove a tiny cross monument to WWI veterans from a mound of rocks in the Mohave Desert. 

Why does the ACLU think they are protecting the religious and patriotic liberties of Americans by attacking a tiny monument in the middle of the desert that few people ever see?

A quote from a spokesperson for the ACLU said in a recent article: "It amazes me that veterans groups that fought shoulder to shoulder with Jews and Buddhists and Muslims, for them to think something is appropriate to recognize as the common sacrifice of every religion by choosing a symbol that Jesus is the Son of God, is very selfish or oblivious," Mr. Eliasberg said.  (Washington Times, May 25, 2009)

Mr. Eliasberg is suggesting that the number of Moslem and Buddhist soldiers fighting for the United States in World War I comes even close to the number of Judeo-Christian troops. Be that as it may, the ACLU never suggests a multiple-belief monument should be set up. Instead, their only course of action is to tear down the monument. And speaking of singling out a particular belief as being “selfish or oblivious”, the article mentioned that the ACLU was representing one man who opposed the monument. So the opinion of one man who may never even drive through that area of the country, who probably couldn’t care less about the monument if it had been anything else but a cross, somehow outweighs the sacrifice of thousands of Christian Americans who died for this country, according to the ACLU.

But then it always seems the ACLU never fights for religious liberty unless the fight includes smashing some Christian monument or document. Some examples:

• Ten Commandments monuments taken down all across the country, regardless of the fact that most religions recognize at least most of the commandments as very appropriate, and the three major Monotheistic religions recognize all of them as appropriate.
• Attempts to take “Under God” removed from the Pledge, although the above comment applies to this phrase as well.
• Prayer prohibited, regardless of the religion. All religions would benefit from recognizing a moment for silent prayer.
• Moment of Silence attacked. All religions and belief systems, even atheism, could arguably benefit from such a silent moment.
• Nativity Scenes banned
• Speeches with any mention of religion banned at commencement ceremonies, to the extent that students who wish to express their religious beliefs, even in the most brief of comments, are not allowed to speak.
• Salvation Army defunded
• Boy Scouts sued
• Christmas Carols stopped
• Renaming of Christmas and Easter holidays to ambiguous and stupid titles that eliminate the true and original meaning of such holidays, thus insulting huge segments of the population.
• Bible called ‘hate speech,’ because it states that homosexuality and pedophilia is wrong.

But then again, I don’t know of a time when the ACLU has ever fought for Christian Americans, or even Americans in general. Rarely do I hear them fighting for Jewish Americans. Recently Moslem Americans have gained quite a few inroads, including the “Call to Prayer” over public loud-speakers in formally Catholic Dearborn, Michigan, and students memorizing and reciting Moslem prayers for several years in California public schools. That is OK with me, as long as Christianity and Judaism receive the same opportunities in the public arena. But of course, the Judeo-Christian Ethic is pushed down to glorify other beliefs continuously, especially by groups like the ACLU.

Although the ACLU stands for “American Civil Liberties Union”, and claims to protect all the rights or “people in this country” (I could have sworn the original mission statement used to say “Americans”), it always seems like the ACLU only fights for the rights of pedophiles, terrorists, homosexuals, illegal immigrants, Moslems who want to force women to wear burkas for ID photos, and militant atheists. The last time I checked, there are more types of Americans than these. Christians, and people who are partial to the Judeo-Christian Ethic, amazingly enough, are Americans too.

Dear President Obama,

                I have read that one of your first acts as president is to use taxpayer money to fund abortions all over the world.  This practice was banned by your Republican counterparts, but you have reversed that ban with a wave of an executive order.

                You do this I am sure because you believe you are furthering the rights of women everywhere.  For many years, Pro-Choice proponents have insisted that the woman has the right to control her own body, and while a baby is within her womb, it is neither human nor alive, and is only a part of her biology.  As long as the fetus is within her, totally dependent, it cannot be an independent person, but only a piece of tissue.

                But if this is so, the lump of cells, on leaving the womb, has a startling metamorphosis!  It goes from an impersonal piece of tissue to a full-fledged human simply by leaving the birth canal!  From mere biology to (BAM!) a person with a soul!  This type of reasoning is called “magic thinking”, the idea that something can become something totally different suddenly by changing residence.

                Obviously, something does not become something completely different without a Deus Ex Machina-type movement of heaven and earth.  It is curious to note that while many Pro-Choice proponents make fun of Christians for believing in miracles, they themselves believe in a very strange magic indeed.

                As reasonable people, we know that “magic thinking” is silly.  Thus, abortion is the killing of human life.  The funding of abortions all over the world is the funding of murder all over the world.

                Liberals have accused Mr. Bush of being an evil man, bent on the destruction of thousands of people in the Middle East.  What must we think of this policy that will lead to the destruction of millions across the globe?

                I am ashamed to know my country condones this, and lends its taxes to support such a practice.

Dear Mr. President,

I know you are bent on creating a welfare state.  Let me remind you this is not the American Dream and it never was. 

The American Dream is to be self-sufficient, have freedom, and own property.  The welfare state, much like the Communist state, is diametrically opposed to all of these. 

In a kind of mocking wink at the Real American Dream, your party attempted to help struggling families afford a home for a few months, while nearly destroying the entire American mortgage and financial systems.  What is far worse, however, is the ethical erosion that the welfare state imposes on America.

Every day I see people of all races and cultures having children who can’t take care of them and can’t take care of themselves.  They cannot acquire a well-paying job to support themselves or these children  because they never earned an education (even though at least a high school education is free, and even higher levels of education are widely available to struggling individuals through grants, loans, and the GI bill).

Why didn’t they get an education?  Because they do not value an education.  Why don’t they value education?  Because they know the government, through welfare and other programs, will take care of them. 

Welfare leads to ignorance which leads to more welfare.

Perhaps you don’t know this because you have never lived with or experienced some of the darker aspects of the welfare state.  I do know this, not because of Republican talking points or Conservative talk radio, but because I have seen it with my own eyes, over and over again, when I lived around many welfare recipients.  I have also seen this time and time again at the alternative school where I work.

Welfare is good when it supports the aged or the handicapped, the people who truly and physically cannot care for themselves.  But when welfare is extended to anyone who feels entitled to it, it becomes a trap that destroys ambition, wonder, initiative, desire for education, self-sufficiency, and independence. 

Only through struggle and hardship may a person sharpen and strengthen themselves to become free, disciplined, and strong in spirit.  When a person is coddled by a “nanny” state of welfare programs from birth to death, individual opportunity and enterprise are crushed, then there is no incentive for self-sufficiency, for the creation of opportunity, for the glories of education, for the thirst of freedom.  These things are destroyed when people are handed everything they physically crave and do not have to struggle or work for them.  The eyes grow dim and hollow, the bowl goes out for government handouts, and the spirit dies.
